Article 764 - The Archives and History Directorate will be the body responsible for compiling, preserving, safeguarding, using, and disseminating materials relating to the past and present of the Methodist Church of Mexico, A.R.

Mission

Preserve, organize, and disseminate CANCEN's documentary and historical heritage, promoting access to information and knowledge of God's work in the past, and encouraging research to strengthen IMMAR's identity.

Vision

To be a leader in the preservation and dissemination of IMMAR's history, facilitating access to documents and resources that inspire future generations to learn from their heritage and contribute to the spiritual and cultural development of our church.

Rev. Edgar Avitia Legarda (1960-2023)

He was born in the city of Chihuahua, Chih., Mexico, on July 18, 1960. His father was Professor José Avitia Domínguez and his mother was Luz Legarda Sáenz. He was married to Giuseppina Lauretano, father of two children, Bruno and Nydia, and grandfather of three.

He was clergy of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served in various capacities within the UM Connection: local church, school chaplaincy, district superintendency, and most recently as an executive of the General Board of Global Ministries as Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean.

He had extensive experience in church governance, administration, and missions. He held various positions at various levels within the United Methodist Church and served in the development of new churches. He taught and organized several courses, including the Advanced Course for Central America.
